79%MORE was recently hosted at Kabb, which is tucked into a spot near the northwest corner of the temple in TaiKoo Li. Kabb is a sister restaurant to Blue Frog, one of our favourite western eateries in the area, and it offers higher end cuisine with out losing its comfort food roots. The Kabb menu has burgers and sandwiches including, we were pleased to see, poutine and a Reuben sandwich on rye, but most of the menu is devoted to more luxurious fare such as steak and roasted meats – like their signature roast chicken and lamb chops.
We started with the Vietnamese style shrimp and pork spring roll. The pork and shrimp were well cooked and flavourful and the dipping sauce was bright with lemon grass and fish sauce. The Thai roast duck salad was a generous pile of greenery with mango, mint leaves, radicchio and duck breast. The ribeye was cooked nicely and served with roasted asparagus. Steak fans will want to checkout their menu of various cuts and grades of meat, and their Thursday night steak specials. We were really impressed with the rosemary roast chicken, which was cooked perfectly with crispy skin, and sided with some baby potatoes. Sidedishes like potatoes and vegetables can be added to the roasted meat dishes, so they are convenient for eating as a single portion or sharing family style.
Brunch is serious business at Kabb and includes their specialty, smoked salmon eggs Benedict, as well as pancakes, various egg dishes, a breakfast burrito and lighter fare like fruit salad. Many of the staff were brought from Shanghai, so Kabb feels very professional and polished for a newly opened spot. About half the space is dining room and half the space is bar, with many outdoor tables. Brunch and lunch 70-100RMB per person, dinner 150-200 per person.
This review was written in May, so somethings may have changed.
